AgMet Explorer puts agrometeorological graphics for each Indiana county and agricultural
statistics district next to the weekly crop progress and condition reported by USDA NASS.
Crop progress and condition
Values come from the USDA NASS Crop Progress and Condition gridded layers, averaged over
each county, district or the state. The layers are interpolated from county-level survey
reports and smoothed, so their effective resolution is about one county. Each week is
modeled independently, so progress is shown as a running maximum. Reports reflect the
judgment of local respondents and are not a probability sample.
Method documentation.
-
Progress index: 0 (none planted) to 1 (all harvested), the mean of the
cumulative stage percentages.
-
Condition index: 1 (very poor) to 5 (excellent), weighted from the
share of acres in each rating. The map color scale spans 2.5 to 4.5; values outside it
take the end colors.
